Aqua Fitness – Fitness in Water!

Aqua Fitness – A Growing TrendAqua Fitness is a physical activity that’s gaining popularity. Dozens of people exercising in the water to the rhythm of music has become a standard sight at swimming pools across the country. The industry’s potential is enormous, and the demand for passionate and dedicated instructors to support both younger and older enthusiasts of this activity is steadily growing. We spoke with Paweł Jaworek, known as the AQUA KING, about his passion for leading aqua fitness classes!

What is AQUA FITNESS? Can you explain it in simple terms?

In simple and approachable terms, it’s the most fantastic form of fitness ever invented by humans. But to get a bit more serious, it’s a type of fitness — one among many — that stands out because of its working environment! The main difference from traditional fitness isn’t what we do or the tools we use; it’s the environment. Here, we work strictly in a water-based setting. Most of the body is submerged in water. However, and this is important — you don’t need to know how to swim!

Why is Aqua Fitness a Valuable Physical Activity and How Does It Support Health?

Simply being submerged in water provides an incredible advantage — it removes the strain on joints. Water naturally balances the load on your body. Whether you’re slim, overweight, or have mobility issues, in the water, everyone is on equal footing, so to speak. You can perform exercises in water that would be nearly impossible on land. The aquatic environment makes it easier and more accessible. There’s also a compelling argument, in my opinion, that water offers a sense of privacy. I know some women who feel uncomfortable attending regular fitness classes because they’re self-conscious.

In the water, they let loose, have fun, and don’t feel judged. Most of their body is submerged, giving them a sense of comfort and confidence. As for the second part of the question, aqua fitness offers nearly all the benefits of traditional fitness: It improves endurance, It’s a form of recreation, It helps shape and tone the body.

And most importantly, there are almost no negative side effects or risks. Joints aren’t strained as they are in traditional workouts, and the risk of injury is minimal. Of course, there are occasional muscle cramps, or someone might swallow water by accident, but such cases are rare.

Aqua Fitness – Who Is It For?

Who usually participates in these classes? What age groups are they designed for?

The majority of participants are women. In general, fitness tends to be dominated by women, and aqua fitness is no exception. However, recently I’ve noticed more men joining in, often coming along with their wives. The second group consists of men who use aqua fitness as a supplement to their primary sport. For example, those who train in martial arts often treat aqua fitness as an excellent way to relax and unwind. The third and largest group is seniors. I see more and more men in this category, clearly attending because traditional workouts have become too demanding for them. Aqua fitness offers a low-impact yet effective way for them to stay active.

How to Prepare for Aqua Fitness Classes?

What should you bring, and what is provided during the classes?

Preparation is similar to getting ready for a regular visit to the pool. You don’t need any special equipment, as it’s usually provided by the facility, school, or instructor. You’ll need a swim cap if the facility requires it, as well as appropriate swimwear. For women, a one-piece sports swimsuit is ideal. Some regular participants may have their own buoyancy belt, which is well-fitted and tailored to their needs, but this is optional.
